Earn CPD with The EVC Magazine
Reading The EVC Magazine can count towards your professional development. You log what you read, reflect on what you will change on your visits, and keep the record in your profile. Each eligible article shows its reading time, so your hours are never guesswork.
Our scheme is informal and self-certified. It is owned by The EVC Magazine and every eligible article is validated by an EVOLVE Advice Educational Visits Adviser. It is not accredited by the DfE or any awarding body, so please check that your school or employer is happy to recognise it.

How it works
- Look for the CPD badge on an article. No badge means no points.
- Read it, in print, in the app or on the website.
- Choose Log this reading and answer three short prompts about what you will change on a named visit, policy or process.
- Optionally discuss it with your EVC or a colleague and note what was agreed.
- Your points are added to your profile. Your line manager can sign off the printed log if your school wants that.
The rules
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| One point | 60 minutes of credited learning |
| Tier A (guidance and practice) | 100% of the published reading time |
| Tier B (context and inspiration) | 50% of the published reading time |
| Reflection entry | 10 minutes. Required, because reading with no reflection earns nothing |
| Discussion bonus | 10 minutes if you discussed it and recorded the outcome |
| Rounding | Down to the nearest quarter point |
| Limits | 2 points a sitting, 4 points per printed edition, 10 points per academic year |
Reading time is word count divided by 150 words a minute. Adverts, sponsored content and promotion are never eligible, and advertisers cannot buy a badge. Reading the same article twice in a year earns nothing the second time.

That is the school’s decision. The log is designed to give leaders the evidence they would want to see.
No. It supports training and does not replace what your employer or local authority requires.
No. The magazine and the scheme are free. You do need to be signed in so your log is saved to your profile.

Your data
If you save a log, we store your entries (the articles, your reflections and the points) against your EVC Magazine profile so you can see them in the app and on the website. Only you can read your reflections. We see totals only unless you share your log with us. We keep your log for this academic year and the previous three, then delete it. You can export or delete it at any time, and deleting your account deletes it. See our privacy policy.
