Martyn’s law guidance published
The home office has today (15 April) published new statutory guidance to support the implementation of The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn’s Law.
The statutory guidance explains the core concepts and requirements under the law. It provides advice and illustrative examples to support establishments that fall within scope of the legislation to understand how to comply with their legal duties.
Martyn’s Law is designed to ensure that public places are better prepared for terrorist attacks. Schools are included the establishments in scope of the law, as are venues that might be visited by school groups on educational visits.
The Act received Royal Assent in April 2025 and is now in an implementation period of ‘at least 2 years’ before it becomes mandatory to give organisations time to prepare for the requirements.
